The model operates within Excel and has three input sections. They are:
- Assumptions
- Income Statement info
- Balance Sheet info
Below is a screenshot of the assumptions page, the first page you would
complete. Throughout the model, the
input cells are easily identifiable because they are in blue. The model also starts with sample data for
illustrative purposes. This data is
easily cleared by pushing a macro button. Note that the comment box is a help screen that pops up anytime the
mouse cursors over a cell with a little red triangle in the upper-right hand
corner of the cell. Also notice the
green box in the upper left that gives the running calculation of the value of
the company as you modify each variable.
Note that this model calculates a discount rate (cost of capital) and a
terminal value using a complex algorithm as is practiced in the financial and
academic world. You have the option to
use your own discount rate and/or terminal value.

The next input area is the historical income statement info as seen
below. Only one year is required but you
can enter up to 5 historical years.

The next input area is the proforma income statement info. Note that there are two ways to enter this
data. You can enter numbers or you can
make assumptions such as growth rate, expenses as a percent of sales and so
on. See examples of each below:

Below is the input area for a proforma income statement where absolute
numbers are entered. Note the help
screen that appears for “Total Operating Expenses.” This appears when the mouse cursors over that
cell and then disappears when the cursor is moved.

Below is the input area for a proforma income statement where percentage
assumptions are entered instead of absolute numbers.
